The Focus on Food Cooking Bus visits St Andrew's Primary School
The Cooking bus is an extremely large lorry which visited our school for a week in March 2008. It gave children the opportunity to work with professional cooks, learning about basic hygiene and how to cook some mouth-watering recipes. Parents were invited to visit the bus on Tuesday 11th March, together with the official opening of our Independent Learning Centre by Jeanette Orrey (the cook who worked closely with Jamie Oliver on his
school meals programme and continues to promote healthy school meals through the Food for Life initiative).

The school has been chosen as a 'flagship' school for Food for Life status. The school has worked really hard on promoting healthy eating and is very proud of its vegetable garden created in 2006 by our pupils. This hands-on experience of planting and growing vegetables to then be cooked by our award winning school kitchen ties in with our healthy eating initiative. The school has developed links with local Green Acres Organic Farm, creating a unique approach to learning. The school has just received the bronze accreditation for Food for Life and is currently working towards Silver.
